Workplace Mediation
Inherent in every workplace is conflict and the need to manage it. The reason for this reality is that the workplace is comprised of many different personalities, each with their own opinions, agendas, goals and interactive methods. Whether it is conflict between co-workers, employees and supervisors, department heads, supervisors and management, the organization and the public, or some combination of these, the productivity of the organization is diminished due to the amount of energy that is used to deal with these conflicts. If the conflicts are not resolved fundamentally, they will return and cause more lost productivity. Management's responsibility is to minimize the amount of time and energy lost in dealing with these conflicts. Many times, because of their closeness to the situation, members of the organization are not in the best position to resolve these conflicts due to their emotional involvement in the organizational issues. Research has found that utilizing an objective, outside source to manage internal conflict is most effective. A neutral mediator can quickly surpass the suspicion that the problem solving is not fair due to internal allegiances.
It is important to resolve workplace conflict sooner rather than later. The longer a conflict is allowed to fester, the more productivity that is lost.
Additionally, with each conflict that is resolved there is an opportunity for correction to be made to the organizational policies and procedures, which can then prevent future conflict. The Conflict Resolution Center, Inc. has extensive experience in working with organizations to resolve conflict and to correct the sources of the conflict.
